If a Picture is Worth a Thousand Words . . .

What would you write about this one?

Consider this a writing prompt. Don't panic, just write. See where the photo and your words lead you. And if you're willing, share a bit of what you write as a "Comment."

See you along The Writing Road.

Fire and Ice
Snow and Sun.
Wonder where this
Road will run?
Winding away
Wandering around.
What lays beyond
These frozen grounds?

Bravo, Jenni, for being the first to step up to the writing prompt challenge! I like the question you raise: Where will this road run?
It's a good question for those of us along the writing road too. Where will the road lead--and who will we meet along the way?

Cool photo. Okay, I'll give this a quick try:
At first glance, this path seemed dangerous, lonely, daunting. What if I slipped on the ice? What if I got lost along the way? I couldn't even see around the corner. But then I looked up and, through the branches, found the brightness that would guide me. And I took a step forward, knowing that I was not alone.

Elizabeth, I like how you see past the "first glance" of the photo and are brave enough to take the step forward.

Okay, here's my unedited stab at it:

Breathless, I gazed into the blinding white. Before me stood a winter wonderland, a forest of ice, like something straight out of Narnia. I took another step forward. My fur-lined boots crunched on the frozen ground. Should I turn around? No. Something within me propelled me forward. I had to find out what lay beyond the bend in the road, even if it meant certain capture.

Just found this blog, nice. I'll give it a try.

As I wave goodbye to the bride & groom, the horse drawn sleigh took them around the bend, out of my sight. Her father already on his way back to the house to get warm, lets me linger, gazing after her. I imagine the house now with no child to fuss over, and no constant female soul-sharing companionship. But yet the tears stinging my cheeks are from joy. Isn't it just like us mothers. We overlook our own sadness if it means our children are happy, and doing what they're supposed to, growing up.

The last two comments Susan and "As We Sail" had more of a fiction ring to them . . . how fun! Wonder what waited to capture Susan?
And I definitely related to the just-married theme, although my son got married, not a daughter. Yes, growing up is what our children are supposed to do. And it's wonderful and horrible all at the same time.
:O)

Beth, I don't know what was waiting to capture me either... all kinds of possibilites... an enemy soldier, a villian of some sort whether in this world or another... you never know...
